State officials identified the suppression of hugs as a long term health hazard. Therefore various institutions issued instruction manuals for the creation of Hug-Airbags. In instances of running towards each other spreading arms, winglike ready to embrace, the hug airbag inflates allowing for a safe encounter.
Hug-Airbag
Amid a unique situation on a planetary scale, we decided to explore the impact of lockdown and social isolation on behaviours and norms in social, cultural contexts. Working from observations on small shifts to speculations on long-term implications on various scales, we explore the potential of this crisis as a hopeful opportunity to challenge longstanding frameworks and behaviours.
The Hug-Airbag as a first illustration of one of various investigated fields and was selected by in-residence a non-profit organisation for design research as one of 10 ‘grafts’.
This project is part of an ongoing collaboration with Daniel Daam-Rossi.
